If your old furnace has stopped working entirely or expensive repair jobs are getting more frequent, it’s definitely time for a new furnace. Furnaces on average last 20 years, but even if your old one seems to work okay, it might still be time to consider replacement with a more efficient unit to save money over the long run and enjoy more comfort and quiet now.
Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) is a standard percentage rating that measures how efficiently your furnace converts fuel into usable heat over the course of a typical heating season. It measures the amount of heat actually delivered to your house compared to the amount of fuel that you must supply to the furnace. Thus, a furnace that has an 80% AFUE rating converts 80% of the fuel that you supply to heat -- the other 20% is lost out of the exhaust.
A single stage furnace runs at one fixed (100%) capacity whenever it is on. It operates on an all or nothing approach by blasting maximum heat until your home reaches the target temperature, then it turns off which leads to frequent on-and-off cycles, while a two stage furnace has two operating levels (usually low at 60–70% and high at 100%) to adjust heating based on outdoor weather.
The two Stage Furnace starts on a low energy saving setting (60% to 70% capacity) for mild days. It ramps up to high capacity only during cold weather or if the low setting cannot satisfy the thermostat within 10 to 15 minutes. Two stage models run longer, gentler cycles that maintain a steady indoor temperature and eliminate sharp hot and cold swings. Single stage systems can cause noticeable temperature ups and downs especially on older homes which usually have more heat loss and gain than a newer home.
Two stage units are typically quieter too because they spend most of their time running at lower capacities. Single stage systems can sound louder or more abrupt during startup and operation due to the constant full blast cycling. Two stage systems also use less gas by operating at a lower capacity during mild weather. Single stage units always consume max energy per cycle. Single stage furnaces have a lower upfront purchase and installation cost. Two stage furnaces cost more initially (usually about $1,000 more), but can save on fuel bills over time.
A multi speed furnace blower only has a set number of predefined speeds (high, medium, and low), whereas a true variable speed blower adjusts its airflow smoothly across dozens
of micro speeds. Variable speed motors provide superior humidity control, quieter operation, and higher energy efficiency, but multi-speed models cost less upfront
Multi-Speed Blowers are usually powered by a constant-torque ECM or older PSC motor wired to a few fixed speeds. It switches between specific preset airflow levels depending on your call for heating or
cooling.
Variable Speed Blowers are powered by a programmed ECM motor that continuously ramps up or down in small increments. It calculates the exact cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air required to maintain
an even temperature and static pressure in the home.
Most furnace and AC replacements take 4 to 6 hours to complete. Heat pumps do usually take longer and run 6 to 8 hours on average. We can usually get installs scheduled and installed within 48 hours of the first call and we prioritize anyone with no heat in the winter and no cooling in the summer.
We're authorized dealers and installers of Goodman, American Standard, Innovair, and Amana. All brands we sell come with a 10 parts warranty from the manufacturer and our labor warranty on the units varies depending on which system you buy.

I had both my furnace and ac units replaced by Rocky Mountain Air Systems. They are near me and the price was affordable and we have had no issues. Tracy is very knowledgeable. Would recommend to friends in the future!
Had a new air conditioning unit installed in my new build. The team was very friendly, showed up on time, and even wore booties to not mess up my wood floors. They did quality work had great
