Breaker Box Replacement & New Installation Cost

Free Panel Upgrade Estimate | (720) 620-7556

Most homes built prior to 2000 have 100 or 125 amp electrical panels that can't support the addition of a heat pump, EV charger, or hot tub. We upgrade residential panels to 200A or 320A for homes with a larger demand. The 200A Electrical panel upgrade cost on average between $4,000 and $5,000 in the Denver metro area.

Permits, Xcel Energy coordination, and city inspection are included.

Electrical Panel Upgrade - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does this work?

A:

4. On install day, we work with Xcel Energy to have them disconnect the meter. Your power will be off for about 6 hours while we replace the panel and run new circuits. Once the installation is complete, your city electrical inspector verifies the work. Once the inspection has passed, Xcel reconnects the meter. Most panel upgrades are completed in just one day but from permit application to the final inspection could take a couple weeks.

Q: Do I need a new electrical panel?

A:

Electrical panel's will usually last between 25 to 40 years. However, if yours is older than that and has signs of wear or damage, and or frequently trips breakers, it is probably time to consider replaceing it. Also if you are planning to install a heat pump or add other upgrades to the house like a EV charger then you probably will have to upgrade it. Most older panel's are less than 200A and can't safely handle the load increase.

Q: What if I have a Federal Pacific panel?

A:

Federal Pacific panels are electrical panels manufactured by Federal Pacific Electric Company (FPE) in the 1950s until the 1980s. These panels were installed in most homes across the United States during this period. These units are considered outdated and dangerous due to a high failure rate and are considered potential safety hazards. Studies have shown that FPE panels have a high incidence of breaker failure, which can lead to electrical fires and other safety risks. If your home has a Federal Pacific panel, you should have it replaced by a licensed electrician as soon as possible.

Q: Can I get a larger breaker box than 200A?

A:

Yes. We install 320A panels for homes with multiple high draw systems like when they have a heat pump, EV charger, electric water heater, and other large appliances that exceed the 200A capacity. Upgrading to 320A is more complex than a standard 200A upgrade and requires engineering plans and cost significantly more.

Q: How do I know what size my current breaker panel is?

A:

You can determine the amp size of your current electrical panel by locating the main breaker in your breaker box. The main breaker typically has the amperage rating printed on the breaker or on the panel label. Most homes have these panel sizes 60A, 100A, 125A, 150A, and 200A.

Q: How long does the installation take?

A:

Most AC installations or replacements are completed in about 4 to 5 hours. We can usually get installs scheduled and completed within 48 hours of the first call and we prioritize anyone with no cooling in the summer so we can usually do the next day if it's hot outside.

Q: Do you install EV Chargers?

A:

Yes we do but only as an add-on to a panel upgrade job. If we are there doing the breaker box then we can do additional wiring hookups for EV chargers, ac systems, heat pumps, or hot tubs. However it does increase the project cost for each additional item you request.

Q: What forms of payment do you take?

A:

We will take any credit or debit card and green cash or a cashiers check but we DO NOT take personal Checks, Bitcoin, or Paypal!

Q: Do you require a deposit or down payment?

A:

Yes we do require half down on electrical panel upgrades!
